I had the privilege to work on the branding for Gee Greenslade‘s digital retouching business You + Me =. The idea behind her service is that many photographers need images retouched, but do not always have the time or necessary skills to do so. So that’s where You + Me = comes in. The photographer and digital retouch artist will work together in a really close-knit and long-term relationship to get the work done. Clients are encouraged to sit with the team while they retouch and to call them up to make changes etc.
What was needed was a branding / logo / watermark that could be used. We came up with a concept of visually portraying the statement “you + me =” with what came after that changing all the time. For example, “you + me = amazing”, “you + me = more time with your family”, “you + me = a well deserved holiday” etc. (E.g. when a photographer works with this business they have more time to do other things important to them).
You can see what we came up with below.
The design incorporates 2 rectangular bars. The top bar includes the phrase “YOU + ME =”, while the bottom bar will have varying phrases added. A large “+” sign is cut out of the top bar, utilising negative space and creating unique shapes around it. The words “You” and “Me” are contained in these shapes and when these shapes are shifted together can also create a “-” (minus) sign (if desired). The “=” sign is made up from the same sized lines as the “+” sign but arranged differently. The logo is adjustable with the ability to change it to any colour according to taste and what suits the image it is being paired with. Opacity blends and transparency can also be played around with to get a desired effect. A special InDesign document with detailed instructions was made for the client to adjust the logo as needed.
Below is an example of how the logo can be used as a watermark (using an image of mine). When the new website for “You + Me” goes live, I will be sure to share the link. Can’t wait to see the logo in action.
